The First Track

Tracking is the act of sweeping your arms back, extending your legs, and getting the best glide out of your body while in freefall. It is used on formation jumps of all types in order to gain separation from people before opening parachutes. The farther you can track the better since it helps avoid collisions with other parachutes. It is one of the most important safety skills one can learn in the sport.

On this jump Matt, a student skydiver, is making his first jump performing a track. This jump went extremely well. Instability can be an issue with this type of jump. But Matt performed with flying colors.
